Lumber Jacks, Milking Cows and a Roof Top Party!

Well that pretty much sums up my day yesterday! I went to the LA county fair with some people in my complex. It was great fun! We saw a lumber jack show, a cow milking demonstration, Chinese acrobats and Frisbee catching dogs! This fair was huge but the funny thing about about it was that there weren't displays of Grandma's home made pies or Uncle Fred's prize winning pigs. Instead you had an animal display area of all the farm animals that local farmers had donated to stay for the 3 week fair and a whole lot of people selling things. There were like 6 shopping pavilions full of stuff. Also at the LA county fair you could ice skate, sled, chop wood, take pottery lessons and have various other experiences. It was quite a fun day and I'm glad I went.

After getting back home, I quickly changed and went to a dance party put on by Fuller on top of the Pasadena Museum of California Art. The music was incredible (they had a faculty member spin for the evening) and the view was breath taking you could see City Hall which reminds me a lot of city hall in San Fransisco. Students at Fuller dub this event as "the event of the year" and I understand why. It was a lot of fun. Got to meet some new people and just have a night of fun.

Afterwards, we went into Old Town Pasadena to meet up with some people at a pub called Barneys and spent the late hours of the evening enjoining a pint and having good conversation. The group was a mix of SOT (School of Theology) and SOP ( School of Psychology) students so it was fun to be hearing theological discussions amongst psychological ones. One it got out that I was a George Fox student, it was amazing how many people had questions for me either about the Friends traditions and beliefs or about the Psych program there. It seems that almost all the psych students applied there for grad school (which doesn't surprise me).

Overall it was a great Friday night! Today the plans are to go to a friends house for waffles this morning, spend some time cleaning and reading and I think a few of us were going to go see a movie. OK, well I should probably get started on the cleaning and reading part of my day!

Quotes

"To discover the forgotten poor is more that the work of "social action", as some would call it. It is rather to put our Bibles back togeather again. Indeed, it is nothing less than to restore the integrity of the Word of God--in our lives, our congregations, our communities and our world." -- Jim Wallis; God's Politics

"He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God."
--Micah 6:8

"To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing."
-- Martin Luther

"Our political leaders, after all, are just that--political. No mater what their faith, or lack thereof, they are just plain old people doing a plain old job. They can't save America. It isn't in their job description. They can make changes at the margins by helping a bit here and there. But, ultimately, the work of America is our work. And my ultimate hope is back where it should be--not with fishing, not with politics, but with God."
